📢 Know Your Rights – Tax Evasion Cases under Egyptian Law
At Rami Adly Law Office, we help our clients stay informed and protected under the law. According to Law No. 23 of 2020 (amending Law No. 117 of 2014), five main cases of tax evasion have been defined:
1️⃣ Submitting false or forged documents to the Estimation Committee or the Appeals Committee.
2️⃣ Providing false statements or information during discussions with these committees to influence their decisions.
3️⃣ Presenting incorrect documents to unlawfully benefit from tax exemption.
4️⃣ Failing to submit a declaration when the reason for tax exemption no longer applies.
5️⃣ Submitting incorrect documents that lead to an unjustified increase in tax.
⚖️ Important to know: Criminal proceedings in such tax evasion cases may only be initiated upon a written request from the Minister of Finance or their authorized representative.
📌 Penalties include:
🔸 A fine ranging from EGP 1,000 to 5,000
🔸 Compensation equal to the evaded tax amount
